Seventeen-year-old Stephanie Dilling has been around bluegrass music her whole life. Her dad, Steve, is the banjo player for IIIrd Tyme Out so Stephanie has gone to festivals ever since she was born. Stephanie has been homeschooled since she was in 3rd grade, so that has allowed her to travel frequently with her dad and get the chance to meet a lot of people in the bluegrass community. Around the age of 11, Stephanie started getting into writing. Since she loves animals, she started writing articles that were usually about her pets and sent them to some of her family members. Her family encouraged her to keep writing so she started a newsletter that she sent to some of her family. Even though now she is shocked about how odd the subjects were in the newsletter, she credits this to have helped her a lot in researching and writing. At the age of 12 Stephanie started writing her first column for the North Carolina Bluegrass Association newsletter, Banjo In The Hollow. She wrote articles that included stories on younger musicians such as Ryan Holladay and The Cagle Family. Stephanie is very thankful for the opportunity Banjo In The Hollow gave her.
In November of 2004, Bluegrass Now Magazine hired Stephanie to write the "Teen Scene" column. The first article came out in February of 2005. She has had so much fun since she started writing for Bluegrass Now and has learned a lot about journalism. Stephanie and Bluegrass Now host a Teen Scene Youth Tent every year at Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival in Indiana that has been very successful.
Even though she enjoys writing, Stephanie is hoping to one day have a career as a Medical Technician. In her free time Stephanie usually spends it talking to her boyfriend, Skip Cherryholmes! She currently lives in Raleigh, NC with her parents, Steve and Macie, her brother, Matt, and her dog, Max. She works part time at Starbucks and has a lot of fun at her job!
